The Universal Blocking Systems were developed by Danny Mellen and Russell Harding, owners of an award winning residential and commercial remodeling company in Colorado Springs, Colorado. See there web site at: www.hammersforhire.com
THE PROBLEM – In certain areas, residential building codes require that in an area that wiring may remain exposed such as a garage, basement, storage room or utility area the wiring must be protected from damage with a solid metal, wood or PVC product.
The carpenters would not be able to install the blocking until the electricians had finished the rough-in requiring the carpenters to return to the site with materials and spend, in some cases, hours measuring each wall cavity, cutting and installing wood blocking as required to pass the electricians inspection.
THE SOLUTION – To minimize the return trip from the carpenters and the heavy labor burden incurred, an idea for an adjustable blocking system was developed. As a no measuring, no cutting and no mess alternative to wood blocking, The Universal Wire Block was designed.
THE RESULTS – To evaluate its value the Universal Wire Block was distributed to multiple electricians and after careful tests were done comparing the Universal Wire Block to conventional wood blocking it was determined that the savings on materials and labor was 45 – 50%. The Universal Wire Block is made of light weight, galvanized steel, requires nothing but a hammer and a standard electrical staple or flat head screw to install.
THE ADJUSTABLE BOX ATTACHEMENT – After electricians started to use the Universal Wire Block they found alternate uses for the product. On a recent high end, custom renovation many of the outlets and switches had to be located in very specific locations with regards to custom tile work and to accommodate the features of a home theater. The electricians used the Universal Wire Block to mount their boxes to and the idea for a fully adjustable system of boxes with a built-in bracket that would allow them to be easily mounted to the Universal Wire Block was developed.

We understand that there are many different mounting systems currently on the
market to choose from. Many of the mounting brackets limit your ability for total
customization and placement of a switch or an outlet. We have yet to see
anything that is as fully versatile as the Universal Blocking Systems
